WA: Gran Fondo of Yakima Valley

Description:  Come join us for the second annual Gran Fondo of Yakima Valley and bask in the spring beauty of Central Washington. With over 5,500 feet of climbing over the basalt ridges of the Yakima River Canyon one is afforded over 80 miles of high desert splendor punctuated by 21 miles of gravel grinding nirvana. Bring plenty of grit and you will be rewarded with epic views of the dual spectacles of Mt. Adams and Mt. Rainer as well as the stunning scenery of the Yakima River Canyon. The ride will be well marked and supported with 2 aid stations stocked with food and hydration. If you have always wanted to tackle a Gran Fondo but been a bit intimidated by too much gravel this is the Fondo for you, and if you are an experienced Fondo rider the terrain and distance will provide plenty of challenges.

With 21 miles of gravel we recommend a gravel/cross bike with some tread on those tires. The ride is possible with road bike 28cc tires, but the risk of flats will increase. The condition of the primary gravel section varies from year to year based on the winter weather and timely maintenance. With some 60 miles of pavement a mountain bike is not recommended for this Gran Fondo.

Cost:  The cost for this ride is $70.00 and includes a stylish event t-shirt, delicious post ride meal with a plethora of local craft beers, two aid stations with food and hydration, and sweep support along the course.
