Track cycling – Jennie Reed scores gold and bronze; Sarah Hammer silver

Congratulations to Kirkland's Jennie Reed for winning the gold medal in keirin at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

The 29-year-old also won a bronze in the individual pursuit; Sarah Hammer, 24, of Temecula, California, won the silver medal in that event.

Both are looking ahead to gold medals in track in this summer's 2008 Olympics in Beijing…

Three Pacific Northwest cyclists among Olympic hopefuls

Good luck to the 34 cyclists chosen by USA Cycling for the Olympics “long team” — the first step toward qualifying for the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Three make their homes in the Pacific Northwest. They are Kristin Armstrong of Boise, Adam Craig of Bend, and Jennie Reed of Kirkland. Reed, a graduate of Issaquah High School, also competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics women's track event.

Pro cyclist Levi Leipheimer was an automatic qualifier for the men's road race team, although no “long team” has been chosen for that event….

Jennie Reed has a cool dozen national cycling jerseys and is looking to win more at the USA Cycling elite national championships in Carson, California. Reed won the keirin Thursday, the sprint Friday.

US leads first round of BMX Supercross world cup

Mike Day and Kyle Bennett placed first and second in the first round of the elite men's time trials qualificiations of the 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup on Monday.

The event is part of the 2007 Good Luck Beijing games, a run-up to the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Day and Bennett logged 36.543secs. and 36.710secs respectively. The Good Luck games …

US chances for cycling medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics

The 2008 Summer Olympics is still a year away, but people are already considering the US chances for winning gold medals at the games in Beijing.

The US is considered an underdog to China, which has bypassed Russia as the main US challenger. Cycling is one of the areas where the US has good chances for about a half dozen medals from the men and women, however, according to the Boston Globe.

In addition to the road racing and individual time trial, there are also track cycling competitions. New to the 2008 Summer Games is BMX, which should benefit the US….

Cadel Evans wins ITT preview for Beijing Olympics

Tour de France runner-up Cadel Evans won the individual time trial at the 2007 Good Luck Beijing Road Cycling International Invitational on Sunday.

Michael Rogers, Evans' teammate from Australia, finished in second place and Alexandr Dyachenko of Kazakhstan finished third.

Cyclists raced on the same course that will be raced at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The 14.6-mile route on Sunday will be extended for next year's competition…..

Testing the course for the 2008 Olympic road race

The 2008 Summer Olympics are only a year away, and cyclists raced on the bike course Saturday to test the conditions.

Bosisio Gabriele of Italy won the 2007 Good Luck Beijing International Road Cycling Tournament in Beijing.

The 108-mile course follows the same route that cyclists will take in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. However, the course will be longer as three laps will be added to the circuit, making it 152 miles. …

Good Luck Beijing bike racing this weekend

Almost one year to the day before road cycling events start at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, the “Good Luck Beijing” 2007 International Road Cycling Invitational Race is running this weekend.

Officials says 18 teams comprising 122 racers will compete according to UCI competition rules. The event includes the men's road group and the men's road individual time trials with the competition quota as six and three for each team respectively.

Among countries sending teams are USA, Russia, Australia, Korea, Chinese Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei. Additionally, Luxembourg, with the smallest participation, sent only one racer and two officials…

Road cyclists head to China for pre-Olympic racing

Cyclists representing road cycling teams from several countries are traveling to China to participate in Saturday's Good Luck Beijing road race and Sunday's individual time trial.

The race follows the same course that will be biked during the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, which might give some of these riders a leg up and they can check out the course the riding conditions first hand.

Among the particpants are Michael Rogers and Cadel Evans from Australia.  Matt White, of the disbanding Discovery Channel team, will be among the US riders at the event…..
