This is sad news. BikePortland reports that Michael Wilberding, the founder of Cycle-Pak, died on Saturday from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car in Beaverton on Aug. 1.
Those of you who attended this year's Seattle Bike Expo in February might remember visiting Mike's exhibit, at right. He had designed a double-walled cardboard box that could be used for shipping bicycles. This was his first show, and he was proudly handing out business cards and talking about his invention. …

The Seattle Weekly newspaper takes a look at bicycle commuting this week in an article aptly entitled “Vicious Cycle.”
Reporter David Neiwert is right on target as he writes that even though Seattle has a reputation across the country for being bicycle friendly, that doesn't mean there's plenty of room for improvements. …

RAGBRAI bicycle tourists get parties and pie. Cycle Oregon cyclists get warning signs and tacks in the road.

Some 9,000 cyclists of all shapes, sizes and ages left early Saturday morning for the 27th annual Seattle to Portland bike ride.
This 200-mile bike ride a big event in the Northwest; many newspapers along the route are filing stories about the ride, as are bloggers.
The participants ride for many reasons. The Seattle Times reports that one of them, Gordon Gill, is riding to honor his uncle, Robert Gill of Edmonds, who was killed in a collision with a tour bus while bicycling last year in New Zealand. …

Another roadie has succumbed to the lure of the forest path. Me.
I've had some serious issues with the STI shifters on my road bike, so I asked my son if I could borrow his Gary Fisher to return a movie to the Blockbuster the other day.
Even with the seat post fully extended, his bike is too small for me, but any bike is better than no bike. No complaints. I pedaled up the hill to the school and jumped on the packed gravel on the pipeline right-of-way. …
