Is that a bike commuter or touring cyclist on new stamp?

The US Postal Service gives a nod to exercise and fuel-effecient transportation with its release of four postage stamps depicting different styles of bicycling.

The set of “forever” stamps were released officially in Minneapolis last week. That stung some folks in Portland, where they were still celebrating after taking over the No. 1 spot from Minneapolis in Bicycling magazine’s list of top cities for bicycling.

Bicycling on road and dirt on tap in Seattle area this weekend

It might not feel like summer yet, but a couple of summer bicycling events are on tap this weekend in the Seattle area.

The 3-day Evergreen Mountain Bike Festival gets underway this evening with its volunteer recognition celebration at Duthie Hill Park. The mountain bike event continues all-day Saturday at Duthie and Sunday at Black Diamond.

Arrest in hit-and-run death of Seattle bicyclist Michael Wang

Seattle police have arrested a suspect in last July’s hit-and-run death of bicyclist Michael Wang on Dexter Avenue North.

Charged on Thursday with felony hit and run is Erlin Garcia-Reyes, 28, of Normandy Park. The judge set bail at $500,000. (The suspect vehicle is at right.)

Magazine picks 20 best bike paths — 3 are in Washington state

The Sammamish River Trail in Redmond, pictured at left last fall, leads a list of 20 best bicycle paths in western states chosen by Sunset magazine.

Also on the list from Washington state are No. 8 Spokane River Centennial Trail in Spokane and No. 19 Burke Gilman Trail in Seattle.

California led the list with 7 bicycle paths (see below).

Public officials are looking for some input on mountain biking trails in Kirkland and the Spruce Railroad Trail over on the Olympic Peninsula.

Englishman breaks record for around-the-world bicycle race

Mike Hall triumphantly arrived in Greenwich, England, on Monday to end his around-the-world bicycle tour in an amazing 92 days.

The 31-year-old engineer’s elapsed time crushed the previous Guinness World record of 106 days set in 2010.
