Bellevue begins work on trail along West Lake Sammamish Parkway

Detours on  southbound West Lake Sammamish Parkway went into effect this week as the city of Bellevue began work on road upgrades and the first segment of a multi-use paved trail that eventually will run between Redmond city limits and Interstate 90.

Yuba Mundo cargo bikes recalled

Sausalito, California-based Yuba Bicycles is recalling about 1,000 Mundo brand cargo bikes because passengers’ feet can get caught in the rear wheel.

The company and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission are urging owners to stop using the bicycle and to get them fitted with free wheel covers or wheel skirts installed at no charge.

2013 Tour de Fat celebrates car-free culture in 12 cities

The Tour de Fat celebration of bikes and beer will roll into 12 cities this year, including one in Idaho and two in California. The bike-friendly event is in its 14th year.
Unfortunately, New Belgium Brewery’s traveling bicycle-beer fest is detouring past Seattle for the third straight year.

The bicycle-friendly city hosted the event for 11 years until 2011, raising funds for the Bicycle Alliance of Washington and Bike Works. ….

Open house for trails and transit on Eastside Rail Corridor is March 30

Rail-to-trail enthusiasts might enjoy an open house and tour on the Eastside Rail Corridor coming up in Renton on March 30.

King County government officials want to call attention to the acquisition of nearly 20 miles of the abandoned BNSF right-of-way, part of the corridor that runs between Renton and the King County line. Redmond, Kirkland and Sound Transit own other parts of the old railroad corridor.
