National Trails Day is Saturday; how about a bike ride

National Trails Day is Saturday, and it’s a good time to remember that trails aren’t just for hiking. They’re for bicycling, too.

Here’s a rundown of some Seattle area possibilities this weekend:

King County

King County (WA), for instance, has 180 miles of regional trails with paved or packed gravel surfaces that are suitable for bicycling. …

Biking Across Kansas celebrates 40th anniversary ride bike tour

In the summer of 1975, Gerald Ford had been living in the White House for about a year, The Captain and Tennille topped the charts with “Love Will Keep Us Together,” and a 10-speed steel bicycle was pretty much the cutting edge of two-wheeled technology.

Also that summer, a group of fewer than 100 cyclists joined Larry and Norma …

It’s a simple fact that Washington state is best seen from a bicycle saddle. You don’t have to take my word for it, though.

Bike travel guide author Ellee Thalheimer and her team of intrepid bicycling explorers have proved it in a guidebook that’s available now, “Cycling Sojourner – A Guide to the Best Multi-Day Tours in Washington.”

A 59-year-old cyclist participating in the Cache Creek 600 endurance bike race suffered a gunshot wound while he rode through the darkness near a small British Columbia town Sunday morning.

“Ride the Divide” film crew returns for Trans Am Bike Race

One of the best bicycling films I have had the pleasure of viewing is “Ride the Divide,” a documentary that captures the action and competitors in the grueling 2,700-mile Tour Divide mountain bike race.

Now that production team, including Mike Dion and Hunter Weeks, is getting together to film the inaugural Trans Am Bike Race, which takes …

Horses and wagons make annual John Wayne Pioneer Trail pilgrimage

ELLENSBURG — Has anyone ever yelled at you to “Get a horse” when you’re out for a bike ride? I thought of that comment when I encountered horses and wagons on the Thorp-Ellensburg segment of the cross-state John Wayne Pioneer Trail on Sunday.

Bicyclist league report shines light on traffic deaths

There’s a surprising statistic in the bicyclists traffic death data collected over the past couple of years by the League of American Bicyclists.

In a report issued on Wednesday to coincide with the annual Ride of Silence, the League reports that rear-end collisions are responsible for 40% of bicyclist deaths — the highest category by far.
