Floyd Landis takes golden jersey in Tour of California

Cyclist Floyd Landis beat the next fastest finisher by nearly 26 seconds to win the Amgen Tour of California time trial in San Jose on Wednesday.

The US leader of the Swiss Phonak squad also gains the tour leader's golden jersey for his efforts. Discovery's George Hincapie, who achieved the leader's jersey Tuesday, finished the day in fourth, about a minute slower than Landis.

The 17-mile time trial course …

Stow your bike up in the trees

I've seen some pretty unique inventions for the bicycle come from across the pond. First there was the three-way Danish bicycle, then the sideways bicycle from Ireland.

Now a Swiss inventor has built a Bike Tree that stows bicycles out of the reach of passersby and under cover of an umbrella-like affair.

Installed in Geneva, the Bike Trees lift the …

Hincapie wins Stage 2 of Tour of California

Discovery's George Hincapie won the final sprint into San Jose, taking the stage and the overall leader's golden jersey in the Tour of California.

The long-time Lance Armstrong lieutenant stayed with a chase group that powered over the steepest mountain on the course — Sierra Road — then had enough energy left to beat two other former Armstrong aides de camp: Levi Leipheimer and Floyd Landis (Phonak).

At the finish, it was Hincapie beating Chris Horner and Josep Jufre Pou, both of Davitamon Lotto. Hincapie trailed Leipheimer by 6 seconds coming into this stage; the 10-second time bonus for winning the sprint put Hincapie in the overall lead..

Haedo wins Tour of California stage; Levi Leipheimer keeps the golden jersey

Argentinian sprinter Juan José Haedo of the freshman Toyota-United Pro team won the first stage of the Tour of California in a sprint finish in Santa Rosa on Monday, as hometown boy Levi Leipheimer held onto the leader's golden jersey.

With Davitamon-Lotto, HealthNet, and Phonak controlling the front of the peloton for their sprinters, it's interesting to see a sprinter win it from another team. Actually, the win could certainly help the career of Haedo as directors from major Euro pro cycling teams witnessed this 25-year-old take a sprint from their teams. …

Leapin' Lizards! Levi Leipheimer wins Tour of California prologue

American cyclist Levi Leipheimer won the opening 1.9-mile San Francisco prologue on Sunday with a time of 4:53.43.

If anyone's a homeboy on this prologue, it's Leipheimer. Although he grew up in Montana, the Gerolsteiner cyclist now lives just up the road from San Francisco in the wine country town of Santa Rosa.

While he rides the passes in and out of Santa Rosa and mountain bikes with the locals, he also may have tried his hand on this prologue route that winds its way from the Embarcadero to Coit Tower. …

The world's best cyclists are among the 128 riders taking to the streets in the prologue of the Tour of California on Sunday.

Where to follow Tour of California on TV and web

The long-awaited and much-anticipated Amgen Tour of California starts off in San Francisco at 10 a.m. Sunday for its 8-day race along more than 600 miles of California blacktop.

Although it's ranked as a top race on the international cycling circuit, don't expect to find it covered live on any network TV. There are ways to get live results on the web or cell phone, though, then catch it later on TV …

Seattle Bike Expo weekend

If you're anywhere close to Seattle this weekend, I'd recommend the Cascade Bicycle Club's Seattle International Bike Expo on Saturday and Sunday.

I've been to this for the past couple of years, and it's definitely worth checking out. It's a celebration of everything bicycle — riding, touring, apparel, parts, gadgets, recumbents, foldables — you name it. More than 150 exhibits …

“Do you believe in miracles?” Bicycle racing returns to OLN in 2006!

I suffered a lot of fear and loathing in the past few months over whether I'd see cycling on OLN ever again after Lance Armstrong's retirement.

Fear not. OLN announced its upcoming bicycle racing programming and there's not only the Tour de France, but a series of spring races beginning March 5 with Paris-Nice.

Much like last year's Cyclysm Sundays, the racing …
