Now they've announced 25 businesses for 2009 that are bicycle friendly as well. On the list are breweries (2), hospitals, bike stores, bike manufacturers, law offices and more.

Two suspects wanted in the $250,000 burglary at David Zabriskie's Salt Lake City home are in custody.
Salt Lake City police arrested the two separately on Thursday after publicizing their identities. One turned himself in and the other was apprehended when he showed up at his girlfriend's house.
The two, ages 43 and 39, could be charged with five separate felony counts.
In spite of the arrests, not much of the loot has been recovered yet …

When I first learned from Robert Hollandsworth that he was cutting short his bicycle tour because of physical and mechanical problems, I probably should have guessed that there was more to it than he initially let on.
Yes, he did suffer mechanical problems during the first weeks of his tour that started in Houston around New Year's Day. And yes, the 600-plus miles of bicycling stressed his body that was accustomed to decades of a sedentary lifestyle.

The Cascade Bicycle Club is taking an active role in attempting to curb a rash of attacks and robberies near the bike tunnel in Sam Smith Park in Seattle.
The club will hold a “safety-information fair” from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday in the park west of the I-90 tunnel in Mount Baker.
Cascade is discussing the problem with police and suggests that bicyclists wait up for other bike commuters before riding through the area …

Now that the 2009 North American Handmade Bicycle Show is history, the Oregon Bicycle Constructors Association says it will hold its own show for handbuilt bicycles this fall.
The Oregon Handmade Bicycle Show on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 will be the association's second such show (the first was in 2007). Members plan for it to become an annual show in the future.
The non-profit trade group in Oregon promotes hand-built bicycles, and its members had the opportunity to display their wares at the NAHBS that's been held on the West Coast the past couple of years …

Light-maker Princeton Tec is sponsoring a “Got Lights on Bike” photo contest that features images of anything involving lights on a bicycle.

A lifelong cyclist, advocate and bicycle shop owner is hospitalized with internal and spinal injuries in Winston-Salem. A motorist ran him down while he rode his recumbent bike home from work about a week ago.
Bruce Hermann owns the Neighborhood Transportation bicycle shop in nearby Lewisville, NC. He's well-known and respected among local cyclists and has worked on the local and national stage for more bicycle lanes and more rights for cyclists.
Regarding the crash, his wife, Margaret, told the Winston-Salem Journal:
“I've always been worried about that … he tended to work late. We've always been afraid that something like this might happen.” …

Relocating the North American Handmade Bicycle Show to Indianapolis did nothing to hurt its popularity this weekend.
The show celebrated its fifth year — its first in the midwest — with overall attendance at 6,500 enthusiasts, nearly equal to Portland's record draw last year.
The show also drew a geographical mix of bicycle-builders from across the US. The list of winners demonstrates the widespread interest among builders, with “bests” ranging from Portland, Oregon, to Cleveland, Ohio, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Show owner Dan Walker is based in Indiana, and he says that two-thirds of the US population is within a day's drive of Indianapolis.
Among those winners, the Peoples Choice award went to Sam Whittingham …

Here's a TV news broadcast about a Wisconsin cyclist who records close calls on video.
After lacking evidence in several near misses, Jeff Frings of Milwaukee started shooting video of his bicycle rides with a helmet cam and a rear-facing handlebar cam.
Capturing his near-misses on camera, he shows the video footage to police as proof a motorist violated Wisconsin's law that requires drivers give bicyclists a 3-foot clearance when passing. His experiences are no different than many of ours …

The effort to install and maintain bicycle lanes and build bike paths around Mountain View, California, has paid off with a renewal of its “Bicycle Friendly Community” designation.
The League of American Bicyclists announced the city at the south end of San Francisco Bay will keep its bronze level award.
