Snoqualmie Valley Trail bridge closed for inspection after fire

King County Parks closed the old railroad trestle on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail at Reinig Road near the town of Snoqualmie after a fire engulfed the base of the bridge on Tuesday.

This is the location where the rail-trail dead-ends on the bridge in the vicinity of the mill pond. Steps lead down from the bridge deck to Reinig …

Horses and wagons make annual John Wayne Pioneer Trail pilgrimage

ELLENSBURG — Has anyone ever yelled at you to “Get a horse” when you’re out for a bike ride? I thought of that comment when I encountered horses and wagons on the Thorp-Ellensburg segment of the cross-state John Wayne Pioneer Trail on Sunday.

The John Wayne Pioneer Wagons and Riders Association is making its annual …

Last gap on Centennial Trail is open for bicycle traffic

The last interruption of a completely off-road bicycle ride from the town of Snohomish to the Skagit County line is gone.

Crews in Arlington have rerouted and finished paving a one-mile segment of the Centennial Trail that previously had shared 67th Avenue with cars and trucks as it approached downtown from the south.

Bridging the gap on Chehalis-Western Trail in Lacey

When I stumbled across this scene on Sunday, I thought I had come upon one of the many road construction projects in Seattle.

But no, I was in Lacey, a neighbor of Olympia. Asking around, I learned that this construction job is actually a bicycle-pedestrian bridge that will complete the final missing link in the …

Victory for bicycle projects in Missouri

What is it about some Missouri politicians? They seem to think they can make political hay out of proposing laws that stick it to bicyclists.

Four years ago it was some council members in St. Charles County who wanted to ban bicycling on some county roads. The issue lost support of the majority on council, …

Closed road through California’s Devil’s Slide reopens as bike trail

We’ve all heard about rails to trails. How about roads to trails?

That is what happened to the old Highway 1 through the scenic Devil’s Slide overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The state last year moved Highway 1 (aka Cabrillo Highway) up the slope and through a set of tunnels. San Mateo County restored the old …
