Store chain recalls 68,000 bikes sold in Upper Midwest; 3 other recalls

Recall — Carbon handlebar stems

About 100 4ZA Threadless Carbon Bicycle Handlebar Stems are being recalled because they can break.

The black carbon handlebar stems are made in Taiwan by Belgium-based Race Productions NV. One person was injured because of breakage, reports the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Salsa recalls faulty bike racks

Salsa Cycles is recalling about 1,100 faulty bicycle racks that can break off the bike, causing the rider to lose control.

The wholly owned brand of Bloomington, Minn.-based Quality Bicycle Products recommends that users immediate remove the racks from their bikes and take them to authorized Salsa dealers for inspection, re-mounting or a refund.

Recall: Tektro brake levers mounted on aerobars for Specialized

Specialized Bicycle Components is recalling 600 brake lever assemblies on aerobars that are faulty and can fail to stop the bicycle.

Faulty suspension fork prompts recall for GT, Giant and Trek

A faulty suspension fork manufactured by SR Suntour has sparked a recall of 17,000 GT, Giant and Trek mountain bikes that use the fork.

Owners should stop riding bicycles that are mounted with these forks. They can be returned to any GT, Giant or Trek retailer for free repair.

Topeak child bike seat recall due to amputation hazard

Grab bar dangerMassachusetts-based Todson Inc. is recalling 40,000 Topeak Babyseat II Bicycle Carrier Seats because children can get their fingers caught in the grab bar hinge.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Todson said two reports of near amputations have been filed about children whose fingertips were caught in the hinge mechanism.
