New Bicycle Friendly Communities named; Anacortes, WA, is among them

Add 32 new cities to the League of American Bicyclists’ list of Bicycle Friendly Communities.

The advocacy group announced the new communities Tuesday morning, noting that suburban centers are gaining traction among the 291 Bicycle Friendly Communities in 48 states.

The top 10 cities for bicycle commuting; how 70 biggest cities rank

More Americans than ever are saying that they commute to work by bicycle, according to recently released figures from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

Shirtsleeve weather for Bike to Work DayAlthough the percentage is still low — 0.64% of all commuters in 2012 — the rate represents a 9.6% increase in just one year and a 50% increase if you go all the way back to 1990.

That 0.64% represents 864,883 bike commuters in 2012.

A second arrest in crash that killed two bicyclists on New Hampshire bike ride

The 19-year-old woman who drove a car into a group of bicyclists — killing two and injuring two others — as they participated in an organized bike ride on Saturday is sitting in a jail cell in New Hampshire.

Some are saying that if the police had put her in jail when they stopped her for speeding and driving without a license 8 hours before the fatal crash, then the tragedy on the coastal New Hampshire bridge never would have taken place.
