Cross-country bicycle tour film marks recovery from hit-and-run

“If you’re a driver, slow down, give us some room. This is our life. What’s a few more feet. Take it easy on us.”

Lots of support for Friday’s Bike to Work Day

If you plan to Bike to Work on Friday, you’ll likely find a lot of encouragement at morning commute stations set up throughout the Puget Sound region.

Here’s a map created by Cascade Bicycle Club of 43 commute stations set up throughout Seattle and its suburbs where bicyclists can pick up water, snacks, maps, and free bike-related swag.

Ride of Silence rolls out in 360 cities tonight

You can show your support for bicyclists who have been killed or injured in traffic by joining tonight’s 10th Ride for Silence in your community.

There is no fee and there are no T-shirts. Memorial bike rides will begin in some 360 cities around the world beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday. You can find a list of all the Ride for Silence starting locations in the United States here.

There are rides in 48 U.S. states. Only North Dakota and Hawaii …

17 communities join “bicycle friendly” club

The League of American Bicyclists opened Bike to Work Week on Monday by announcing its 17 new additions to the list Bicycle Friendly Communities.

Washington leads Bicycle Friendly States list again in 2013; North Dakota is the least friendly

Congratulations to the state of Washington for once again ranking No. 1 on the list of Bicycle Friendly States compiled by the League of American Bicyclists.

Chuck Ayers is retiring from Cascade Bicycle Club leadership

Is Volvo’s “cyclist detection system” necessary?

Automobile maker Volvo says they’ve developed a new safety system that detects bicyclists and automatically applies the brakes if the bicyclist veers into the path of the car.

I thought all cars already had such a safety device — it’s called the driver.

If motorists pay attention to the road in front of them, and I know that is a big “if” sometimes, then they can stop their cars if they see a bicyclist veer into their path. ….
