Charity bicycle rides
Major health foundations sponsor hundreds of bicycling rides every year for participants who raise pledges. The MS Bike Rides (multiple sclerosis) and Tour de Cure (diabetes) are two of the biggest. Others include Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, American Lung Association, and of course the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The list also includes information on the AIDS Lifecycle down the coast in California and the most lucrative sports fund-raiser of them all, the Pan-Mass Challenge in Massachusetts.

Weekend Bicycle Rides in the Pacific Northwest

(Washington, California, Oregon, Idaho)The century — 100 miles — is the acid test for any recreational bicyclist. If you can spend 6, or 7, or 8, or 9 hours in the saddle and cover 100 or more miles, your non-cycling friends will just look at you slack-jawed. You’ll feel good about yourself too. It’s a great accomplishment.

Many of the dozens of bicycle clubs in the Pacific Northwest sponsor rides that offer rest stops, mechanical support, and even sag wagons if necessary. Those rides begin in March and occur almost every weekend through October. Many have century rides; others have metric centuries and half-centuries. Check it out, they’re all marked with dates, locations and distances. What a great way to tour the Northwest… one weekend ride at a time.
