Cross-country bicycle rider dies after “trip of a lifetime”

The day after completing his 2,400-mile “trip of a lifetime,” bicyclist Broc Bebout died on the way home in a van.

The Indiana cyclist and about 20 friends completed their five-week southern tier journey from Carlsbad, California, to Brunswick, Georgia, on Wednesday last week.

His wife told the Star Press newspaper that her husband had a great time. “It was the trip of a lifetime. We all have a list of things we like to say we did. That was right up there at the top.”

A new spin for adidas' Mavic bicycle wheel brand

Mavic bicycle wheels are getting a new owner. Germany-based adidas-Salomon AG is selling its Salomon business segment (including Mavic) to Finland's Amer Sports.

Mavic has been around for a long time. It traces its roots back to 1889 with a nickel-plating operation in Lyon, France, and soon thereafter to a company that made parts for velocipedes — soon to be known as bicycles.

Tricycle that SHIFTs into a bicycle

This trike bike looks like it's right out of the Jetsons!
Three Purdue University industrial designers developed this children's tricycle that essentially turns into a bicycle as it is propelled forward. It's such a cool idea that it won the first prize out of 853 entries at the 9th International Bicycle Design Competition in Taiwan. That's worth $15,000.
