Tyler Hamilton saw Lance Armstrong use EPO: '60 Minutes'

Former Lance Armstrong teammate Tyler Hamilton tells “60 Minutes” in a show to air Sunday that he saw the 7-time Tour de France winner use performance-enhancing drugs.

“I saw it (EPO) in his refrigerator. I saw him inject it, more than one time. … Like we all did…. Like I did, many many times.”

Armstrong, who has steadfastly denied ever doping during his career, responded on Twitter:

“20+ year career. 500 drug controls worldwide, in and out of competition. Never a failed test. I rest my case.” ….

Catching a train to Stage 12 win at Giro d'Italia

The cyclists in the Giro d'Italia peloton rode the HTC-Highroad express for 114 miles from Castelfidardo to Ravenna on Thursday as the team delivered its VIP passenger to the finish line.

Sprinter Mark Cavendish sat on his teammates' wheels until the final 100 yards when he battled for victory against Davide Appollonio (Sky) and Alessandro Petacchi (Lampre).

The Stage 12 victory made Cavendish the first cyclist to win two stages at this year's Giro; it was the 7th Giro victory of his career.

The overall standings remained the same ….

“Old man” has best legs at Tour of California finish

Smiling all the way to the top of the Sierra Grade, Chris Horner catapulted himself into the lead of the Amgen Tour of California on Wednesday.

The veteran cyclist was part of a RadioShack group that appeared ready to help deliver team leader and three-time ATOC champion Levi Leipheimer to a victory on the mountainous Stage 4 bike race.

But when it came to the 9.4% grade on the Sierra Road, Horner set a pace that even Leipheimer couldn't follow ….

Dismount for these switchbacks near Fall City (WA)

Maybe I'm a little too engrossed by the mountain stages of the Giro d'Italia, but these switchbacks on the Preston-Snoqualmie Trail caught my eye on a bicycle ride Tuesday.

These turns are sharp and the pitch of the gravel trail is steep. I had no problem obeying a sign that said bicyclists should dismount.

The switchbacks interrupt the rail-trail where it dips off the plateau to cross the Preston-Fall City Road and the Raging River …

Stage 11 breakaway sure-thing spoiled at Giro finish line

On a stage dominated by breakaways, a cyclist who sat in the peloton all day won Stage 11 on Wednesday at the Giro d'Italia.

John Gadret (AG2R) attacked from the driving peloton less than a mile from the finish in Castelfidardo. He bridged up to Daniel Moreno (Katusha) and easily passed the surviving member of a 11-man breakaway.

Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank), who had earlier said he wasn't interested in protecting the maglia rosa for every remaining stage of the Giro, still wore the overall leader's jersey …

Climbing preview for Stage 11 of Giro d'Italia bike race

After Tuesday's flat stage, the Giro d'Italia peloton bumps along the jagged profile of Stage 11 from Tortoreto to Castelfidardo.

The 142km (88-mile) route follows the narrow roads through the mountains within sight of the Adriatic Sea.

Classified as a medium mountain stage …

Remember fallen bicyclists: Ride of Silence is Wednesday

Bicyclists in more than 300 cities across the globe will take time on Wednesday evening to remember bicycle riders who have been killed or injured in traffic.

In most locations, the Ride of Silence rolls out at 7 p.m. for a solemn 8- to 10-mile ride at a 12 mph.

[Note: Some rides begin earlier; Seattle Ride for Silence leaves Gas Works Park at 6:30 p.m.]

Sky's got no limit at Tour of California

Sky Procycling captured its second sprint finish at the Amgen Tour of California on Tuesday, this time as Greg Henderson powered over the finish line.

The 34-year-old New Zealander usually sets up his teammates for victories, like Monday's sprint win in Sacramento by Ben Swift. But as he approached the finish line in front of the lead group in Modesto, he didn't see any teammates behind him so he kept hammering hard.

It made for a long sprint, but the trailing Thor Hushovd (Garmin-Cervelo) couldn't quite reach his back wheel. JJ Haedo (Saxo Bank) finished second with Hushovd in third …
