Germany's Wegmann wins Grand Prix bicycle race in San Francisco

The steep hills in the Barclay's Grand Prix in San Francisco on Sunday proved the undoing of quite a few top-ranked cyclists.
German cyclist Fabian Wegmann of Gerolsteiner won in a sprint finish, just beating John Lieswyn of Health Net and Jason McCartney of Discovery Channel.
Several well known American cyclists from the European pro circuit competed. Fred Rodriguez (riding for the US National team) finished in 21st place, about 5 minute back. George Hincapie (Discovery Channel) and Levi Leipheimer …

Catching up with bicycle tourists

Since I began writing this bicycling blog about eight months ago, I've written about some folks making some interesting cross-country rides, like the bicycling school teacher, Joe Bowen, at left.

In a carbon copy of two earlier stages in the Vuelta a Espana bicycle race, Alessandro Petacchi is led out by his Fassa Bortolo teammates and wins Stage 8.

The only difference in Saturday's finish at Lloret de Mar was that sprinter Thod Hushovd actually had the wheel of the last Fassa Bortolo leadout man and Petacchi had to pass him to …

Disco cyclist wins Vuelta stage; Heras still 1st overall

Dutch cyclist Max Van Heeswijk, left, won the 7th stage of the Vuelta a Espana, beating the likes of Erik Zabel (T-Mobile) and Tom Steels (Davitamon-Lotto).
