2008 Tour of Missouri teams announced

They're back. Team Columbia and Garmin-Chipotle are returning to the Tour of Missouri in 2008 under new names but with the same objective to win.

Organizers for the second annual Tour of Missouri announced all 15 cycling teams that will compete in the Sept. 8-14 bicycle race. The list includes four that just wrapped up three weeks at the Tour de France.

Team Columbia appeared as T-Mobile last year. This year, the team includes defending champion George Hincapie who won the inaugural race as a member of the Discovery Channel team …

Video-stream and TV schedule for Olympic cycling

Laoshan Velodrome

NBC is providing live video-streaming of many major cycling events at the Beijing Olympics on its website once the games begin this weekend.  The only drawback is that because of our time difference with Beijing, the live coverage will occur during the wee morning hours.

Because I'm interested in trying to catch some of this action, I've been checking the NBC schedules. I've broken down their coverage in a list below.

In addition to the online coverage, I found that local NBC affiliates will show highlights of the cycling action, along with everything else, during their regular Olympic programming. The USA Network and MSNBC also will broadcast some live and delayed cycling events.

While road race, time trial, many track events and mountain bike races will be streamed online, NBC is saving the BMX races for live and taped coverage on its affiliates. No BMX races will be video-streamed online, as far as I can tell …

Quote: “… a way to get around … “

The day after Tour de Fat visited Seattle to celebrate the bicycle as a sustainable form of transportation, a Washington DC architect is interviewed by the Post:

“Somewhere along the line, we made biking a hobby and a sport instead of a way to get around,” says Alexandra Dickson, an architect who commutes from Southwest Washington to her downtown office on a blue Breezer Villager that she calls Babe, after Babe the Blue Ox. “I'd like to see it get back to being a way of getting around. …

Levi Leipheimer talks about his Olympics chances

US cyclist Levi Leipheimer has been training in Utah and California to prepare for the Olympic bicycle road race and time trial events at the Summer Olympics beginning next weekend in Beijing.

Leipheimer has had plenty of time to stew about the upcoming Olympics as his Astana team was not invited to the Tour de France.

The Santa Rosa, California, resident did some training along the coast to escape the smoke from inland wildfires. He's also been training in Utah, he recently told the RecovoxNews blog. …

Not so fast; Cadel Evans might give time trial a chance

Australia's Cadel Evans is recovering enough from his knee injury that he might be able to compete in both the road race and individual time trial at the Beijing Olympics afterall.

But didn't he already withdraw from the time trial, giving Australia's lone time trial slot over to Michael Rogers?

Well, yes. But with Evans …
