A bike ride to honor bicyclists killed or injured by motor vehicles gets underway at 278 locations beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday in 22 countries around the world.
The Ride of Silence was founded in 2003 by Chris Phelan to memorialize the death of bicyclist Larry Schwartz in Dallas who was struck and killed by the exterior mirror of a passing bus.

One of the coolest things about the Amgen Tour of California is how the real-time video coverage and other bike race information is streamed online at the website.
Since its inception in 2006, bike race organizers have offered Tour Tracker by Adobe at the website so those without access to TV can watch the entire bike race.
Tour Tracker has returned to the Tour of California this year so that desk jockeys can follow the action of the bicycling road warriors through the race.

You wouldn't expect to see the two top contenders for the overall lead of the Giro d'Italia going at each other in front of a mass sprint.
But there was race leader Alexandre Vinokourov chasing down Cadel Evans in front of the pack in the last 500 yards of Stage 9 in Cava de Tirreni on Monday.
The usual lead-out train of HTC-Columbia had derailed in the last couple of miles, and Evans took advantage of this free-for-all by attempting to beat Vinokourov in the sprint and gain some time on his 1:13 deficit.

Mark Cavendish escaped at least two crashes in the final circuit around Sacramento on Sunday to win Stage 1 of the Amgen Tour of California.
The speedster from HTC-Columbia just barely bested Juan Jose Haedo, who rode Cavendish's slipstream toward the finish but faded when he tried to pass.
With HTC-Columbia leading out their sprinter at the head of the peloton, there was no danger of him being caught in the carnage back in the field. Other well-known sprinters like Tom Boonen and Stuart O'Grady weren't so lucky, however.
One crash occurred soon after the bell lap started and the second occurred within sight of the finish line. So many riders went down or were held up by the collisions ….

Chris Sorensen may have grown up in the flatness of Denmark, but he obviously trains in the mountains as the Saxo Bank cyclist beat the peloton to a mountaintop finish at the Giro d'Italia on Sunday.
The cold, foggy finish on the Monte Terminillo tested, but didn't take much of a toll on the overall leaders in the race on Stage 8.

How tough was Saturday's Stage 7 of the Giro d'Italia?
For one thing, it was 138 miles long. Also, it rained, hard at times; hard enough that a short section of the course was closed due to a landslide.
Compounding that, the peloton cycled over about a dozen miles of Tuscany's strada bianche, dirt roads. The rain, of course, turned the dirt to mud and the racers were covered in it.

A horrific rear-end collision between a pickup truck and a group of six cyclists left three dead and rocked the bicycling community in the Quebec province on Friday.
The five women and one man were members of a triathlon club who were riding to a weekend training camp at Sherbrooke, Quebec.
A pickup truck driven by an as-yet unidentified local volunteer firefighter slammed into the group as they pedaled single-file along the undivided four-lane highway south of Montreal.
One woman was pronounced dead at the scene and two other women died at the hospital.
The speed limit along Highway 112 is 90 km ….
