The nation's newest bike-sharing system rolled out Monday morning in Washington DC and Arlington, VA, by putting 400 bicycles on the road for members.
Named Capital BikeShare, it will become the largest bicycle rental system in the U.S. by the end of October when 100 bike-parking stations are online and 1,100 bikes are available. The system launched with 49 stations opened.
Annual memberships are available at an introductory price of $50 (normally $75), enabling users free use of a rental bike for 30-minute trips. Fees are added the longer the bicycle is in use ….

Trek-Livestrong's Ben King, 21, blasted off on a 50-mile solo flyer on Sunday to win the road race of the USA Cycling Pro Championships in Greenville, S.C.
Coupled with Saturday's ever-so close time trial victory by Trek Livestrong's Taylor Phinney, 20, and you'd have to agree that the future of US cycling is in very good hands.

Tyler Farrar capped off the Vuelta a Espana with a final stage win in downtown Madrid on Sunday by basically outlasting Mark Cavendish on the sprint to the finish.
It was the second Vuelta win for the Garmin-Transitions cyclist from Wenatchee, Wash. He also won Stage 5. Cavendish had three individual wins at the Vuelta.
The overall leaders all finished in the peloton on this flat final stage, marked by 12 circuits around Spain's capital city. Italy's Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas) earned the overall Vuelta championship ….

Don't be surprised to find Minnie Mouse working as a “booth babe” at next year's Interbike International Bicycle Expo as the industry show is relocating to the Anaheim Convention Center, right across the street from Disneyland.
At the same time, Interbike promotors are changing the dates of the giant bike expo to early August to better fit the business cycle of the bicycle industry.
After 12 years in Las Vegas, this coming week marks the finale for the outdoor expo in Boulder City and the indoor show at the Sands Convention Center. The Outdoor Demo is scheduled on Monday and Tuesday, followed by the expo Wednesday through Friday.

That was proven in Greenville, S.C., on Saturday when Taylor Phinney won the USA Cycling professional time trial championship by a scant 14 hundredths of a second over Levi Leipheimer.
