Some bicycle theft victims in the Pacific Northwest have been taking the law into their own hands — in as much as they locate their stolen bicycles then set up a sting to get them back.
Sometimes police are on hand to make an arrest at the finale, sometimes not.
In the latest case, a guy from Portland who calls himself Simon Jackson posted a video about how he recovered his stolen bicycle in Seattle. It’s essentially a how-to video of setting up a sting to recover a stolen bicycle. …
A partnership of government and private industry is starting down the road to launch a bike share system in the Seattle area.
First, however, they must overcome some obstacles that make Seattle unique among the dozen or so major North American cities with bike share — namely the terrain, the weather (rainy) and a mandatory …
The mostly quiet rural roads of the Snoqualmie Valley were busy with hundreds of bicyclists riding the North Bend-based Tour de Peaks bike ride on Sunday.
The bike ride features routes that criss-cross the Snoqualmie and Tolt river valleys. Above, cyclists pass each other on the Tolt River Bridge near Carnation.

Lance Armstrong’s court battle to prevent the US Anti-Doping Agency from pursuing its doping charges against him isn’t the only news in the world of doping this week.
Garmin Sharp manager Jonathan Vaughters admitted in a New York Times op-ed piece to taking performance-enhancing drugs during the cycling career, and cyclist Tyler Hamilton lost his 2004 gold medal because of doping.
The common thread for all these stories is that all the players rode for the US Postal Service team at one time or another.

Three years after the state completed renovation of the Hood Canal Bridge linking the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas, the Department of Transportation is returning to improve bridge deck safety for bicyclists.
The Bicycle Alliance of Washington announced that the WSDOT has agreed to get started soon on the project that should reduce the number of bike crashes on the grated bridge deck.
The current problems include uneven surfaces between bridge sections, slick metal plates, raised rivets and gaps that trap bicycle tires and cause falls.
Using a $1.3 million federal grant, the state will widen …
Over the years I’ve reported on quite a few charity bike rides at this blog, as well as published an exhaustive list of charity bike rides from across the US.
Now it’s time for me to step up and raise pledges for a charity bike ride I’m supporting.
This September I’ll be riding in the Camp Challenge, a charity bike ride to raise funds and awareness for Camp Korey, which serves children with life-altering medical conditions. I know about the camp out in the Snoqualmie Valley because my daughter has been attending one-week summer camps there for the past three years.
