Have you received your invitation to the Interbike industry trade show that begins today in Las Vegas?

Me neither. But, for the first time in its 31-year history, the organizers of the trade-only bike show will open the doors to some consumers on Friday, the final day.

How to enforce 3-foot passing law to protect bicyclists

To those who say that laws requiring motorists to give bicycles a 3-foot gap when passing are unenforceable, consider what police in Austin, Texas, are doing.

A few years ago, bicycle advocates in Texas convinced the legislature to pass a 3-foot law for passing bicycles. Gov. Rich Perry vetoed it, becoming the first governor to …

Bicyclists continued using North Cascade Highway despite closure

Washington’s State Route 20, the North Cascades Highway, was reopened to traffic again Thursday after crews cleaned up after the latest mudslide.

The process was slowed by bicyclists and hikers who took advantage of the road closure to enjoy the majestic scenery without having to deal with car traffic. “Emergency highway closures apply to everyone,” WSDOT says.

Public urination ban takes aim at bicyclists

Cyclists might want to delay their relief a little longer on future group rides in unincorporated King County until they find restrooms, port-a-potties, sani-cans, or “blue rooms”.

May Valley Road rumble strips — they’re coming back

May Valley Road is one of my favorite rides in King County. It links the populated Newcastle suburbs with routes to Issaquah and Hobart via a rural road that’s reminiscent of country byways I used to ride back East.

That’s why I rejoiced when I discovered recently that the rumble strips that had been milled …

Free e-book explains self-guided bicycle tours

There are many styles of bicycle touring.

At one extreme are independent cycling holidays by those who map their own routes and find camping or lodging as they go. At the other end are cushy catered affairs where sag wagons wait at the bottom of every hill and cyclists find a chocolate on their pillow …

Bicycle path opens on new Bay Bridge span in Oakland

Complete SF Bay crossing for bicycles still years away

A bicycle-pedestrian path on the newly opened east section of the Bay Bridge over San Francisco Bay opened on Tuesday, holding the promise of a cross-bay bike route in the future.

At present, however, it’s kind of a bike path to nowhere as it stops short of Yerba Buena Island in the middle of the channel because of a design snafu.

The bike path opened at noon Tuesday …
