Another stage win for Cavendish at Vuelta

It appears that Mark Cavendish has figured out the tempo of the 2010 Vuelta a Espana as the HTC-Columbia sprinter won his second stage in a row on Friday.

Once again, Cavendish was able to position himself behind teammate Matt Goff, who led his man charging through a wide corner on the way to the finish line in Burgos at the end of a 121-mile day.

With Friday's field sprint, there was no change in the overall order among the top cyclists in the General Classification. Spain's Igor Anton (Euskaltel Euskadi) still leads the race by 45 seconds over Italy's Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas).

Missed opportunities

Although he won the first stage of the Vuelta by finishing at the head of the HTC-Columbia team for the team time trial, he missed several opportunities for an individual stage win that first week. He's made up for those misses in Stages 12 and 13.

Those victories marked his first two Vuelta wins, ever. He now boasts 22 individual wins among the three Grand Tours (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a Espana), not counting two team time trial wins.

Cavendish should be easier to spot in the peloton, as he gained the points leader's green jersey after Thursday's stage win.

The peloton returns to the mountains on Saturday with a 110-mile course to the mountaintop finish at Peña Cabarga.
