A bicycle trailer complete with its own tent

Here's a bicycle trailer for the cyclist who has everything and wants to take it on the next bicycle tour.

The Midget Bushtrekka is a four-wheeled pop-up camping trailer for bicycles. Its design enables bike travelers to set up camp anywhere they choose in about five minutes.

Usually, I feel that I carry just plain too much stuff on my bicycle tours. But I would feel like an absolute spartan ultralight bicycle traveler next to one of these.

The Bushtrekka and its smaller cousin, the TrailRat, are made by Midget Campertrailers Australia. At the website, the founder Troy O'Bree writes that after a bicycle camping trip to eastern Australia, he determined that bike travelers needed a trailer…

“… that would allow them to travel light, maintain a tidy presence on the road, and provide an opportunity for the rider to have a bed, off the ground, that could be set up in minutes.”

This is not a review. I have neither tested one of these, nor could I. Empty, the Bushtrekka just about hits my maximum load capacity.

As for the particulars, the Bushtrekka weighs 55 pounds, dry. It has a unit weight capacity of 260 pounds. Packed up to a 3-foot-8 b 2-foot-9 package on the road, it unfolds into a 7-foot by 2-foot-9 tent that can be leveled with 4-inch adjustable jacks.

It comes with a butane stove and inflatable air mattress and rides on-road or off-road.

Maybe the TrailRat is more suited for me. That's only 32 pounds.

Packed up, it's a suitcase with a pull handle and small wheels, according to the website. It opens into a trailer with panniers, storage compartment, self-contained tent and stretcher. It features an independent suspension assembly and rides on a single rear wheel.

Checking out the details of these trailers, they appear well thought-out. They're probably worth considering for anyone who doesn't like sleeping on the ground and doesn't mind pulling weight.
