The reasons to participate in Bike to Work Day on Friday are too numerous to mention. I'll take a stab at a few:
You'll get to do something you really like on the way to work;
You'll be admired by your slothful co-workers;
You can eat that mid-morning snack guilt-free;
You'll be sticking it to those big oil companies;
And, if you live in the Puget Sound region, for instance, you'll find as many as 40 stations with free schwag, snacks, and bicycle route information for morning bicycle commuters.
Here are some Bike to Work events in the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere. Events all around the US are listed at League of American Bicyclists.
Washington: Puget Sound region — WQR Bike to Work Day in conjunction with Cascase Bicycle Club; 40 bike commuter stations, corporate challenge, celebration rally.
Idaho: Sun Valley area — Refreshments available along the Wood River Trail in the morning at Warm Spring Park & Ride, 4th Street, just south of River Run, Broadway Run, East Fork, and Myrtle and Elm streets in Hailey.
Oregon: Portland — Lloyd District is hosting a celebration from 7:30 to 9 at Oregon Square; door prizes and complimentary continental breakfasts.
California: Bay Area — The 9-county region jumps the gun and makes Thursday Bike to Work day. Here's a press release telling all the Bay Area Bike to Work Day activities, including the 180 bike commuter stations.
Texas: Austin — They like their pickups trucks in Texas, but Lance Armstrong's hometown obviously has an affinity for bicycling. Here's the Bike to Work activities in Austin.
Shimano's Bike to Work website features a “Jump Your Coworkers” game.
