Two Seattle-area female cycling coaches are offering a three-day clinic for women who are interested in getting into bicycling.

While helpful to all skill levels, the 2009 Women's Bicycle Retreat in Leavenworth, Washington, is geared to beginning cyclists. It's coached by Lisa Brudvik (at right urging on a client) and Amy Pieper.

Last year's clinic hosted women ages 30-58 who attended clinics, rode their bicycles under the supervision of coaches and relaxed at the host site. This year's clinic runs June 12-14 and is based at the Mountain Springs Lodge on the eastern slope of the Cascades.

Some of the topics that will be covered:

Proper bicycle fit and avoiding common injuries;

Proper braking and shifting techniques;

Riding safely on the road;

Climbing and descending hills;

Nutrition, and;

How to fix a flat tire.

Lisa is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise, a CHEK exercise coach and a registered nutrional counselor. Amy is an accomplished cyclist and triathlete who has trained and mentored athletes through the National MS Society and American Lung Association.

The two have previously coached cycling clinics.
