The day after Lance Armstrong confirmed he's returning to professional cycling, here's news that Floyd Landis will ride his bicycle for the team currently sponsored by HealthNet – Maxxis.
Landis has been serving a two-year suspension for doping at the 2006 Tour de France. His lost his final appeal earlier this year.
CyclingNews reports that when Landis returns in January 2009, he'll join the team run by the Momentum Sports Group that's known by its sponsor, HealthNet-Maxxis. The sponsorship is expected to switch to Smith & Nephew, the makers of Landis' artificial hip.
This is a surprise, as Landis was known to be hanging around with Michael Ball's Rock Racing team. But if Smith & Nephew wants to sponsor Landis' team, then it makes sense he'd have to find another group bike with.
Landis's suspension ends on Jan. 30, 2009. This would allow him to race in the Amgen Tour of California in February. Landis won that race in 2006. Another cyclist rumored to be available for that race is Armstrong, who had retired in 2005 before that Tour started.
As usual, Trust but Verify is all over this news, as it is with anything Floyd related.
