It's time for me to play the “homey sports fan” now.

Five cyclists from Washington, Oregon and Idaho were chosen by USA Cycling to represent the US at the Beijing Summer Olympics in August.

The five are Kristin Armstrong, 34, of Boise, Idaho on the road race and ITT, Jennie Reed, 30 of Kirkland, Washington, in the match sprint, Adam Craig, 26, of Bend, Oregon, in the men's mountain bike, Georgia Gould, 28, of Ketcham, Idaho, in women's mountain bike, and Jill Kintner, 26, of Seattle in women's BMX.

Congratulations to you all. We'll be cheering for you in August.

Armstrong earned her spot on the Olympic team by winning a silver medal in the time trial at the 2007 world championships last September. A graduate of University of Idaho, she discovered that she suffered from osteoarthritis. She stopped competing as a triathlete and focused on cycling.

Reed graduated from Issaquah High School in 1996 and raced at the University of Washington. She competed at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens.

Craig is a 12-time national champion in cycling who is originally from Maine, but now makes his home in Bend. His was a discretionary choice.

Gould received an automatic nomination as the athlete with the highest cumulative placing in her three best 2008 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup performances. The most dominant off-road competitor in the US, she got her mountain biking chops with Team Tamarack in Idaho. USA Cycling also mentions she was a former heavy smoker.

BMX is a new sport for the Olympics this year and Kintner will be the sole female competitor from the US. She was a BMX junior world champion at age 16 and has been winning ever since. She dropped out of BMX for a while to race mountain bikes, but is back with BMX and trains at the Beijing replica track in Chula Vista.
