Low 80s and sunny for Seattle Bike to Work Day

This is amazing! The clouds will part and a warm sun will come shining through here in the Puget Sound region on Friday just in time for Bike to Work Day.

That's not just wishful thinking; that's what it says on Page B8, the weather page of the Seattle Times.

So you can't use the usual excuse of cold, rainy, dreary weather to beg off of commuting to work by bicycle that day.

Check out the Cascade Bicycle Club website if you need information about Friday's events. First, you'll need to know that it's not the Seattle Bike to Work Day here, it's Starbucks Bike to Work Day.

Forty-two bike commute stations (see map) will be set up around the Puget Sound for the Friday morning commute where cyclists can pick up free stuff as well as submit entry forms to win prizes. Some of these even had bike shop volunteers last year to work on troublesome bikes.

Other communties in the state of Washington that have Bike to Work events include:

Snohomish County

Thurston County

Whatcom County

Spokane

Tacoma/Pierce County

Olympia

Last year, Cascade Bicycle Club reports some 10,000 people participated in the local Bike to Work Day. That's great, but San Francisco's Bay Area Bicycle Coalition predicts 100,000 will take to the streets for that area's bike commuter day on Thursday. That's a 20% increase over last year.

We may not be able to hit anywhere near the six figures, but I bet with the good weather on Friday we can beat a 20% increase from last year.
