Hincapie still in yellow as Pagliarini wins Tour of Missouri Stage 4

There's something very odd going on with the Discovery Channel pro cycling team at the Tour of Missouri.

This year's winner of the Tour de France, Alberto Contador, is working as a domestique to the Tour's yellow jersey wearer, George Hincapie. When's that last time that happened on this team? What a difference two months can make.

After retaining the yellow jersey after Stage 4 on Friday, Hincapie told VeloNews:

“Everyone is working well. I have the reigning Tour de France champion bringing me bottles. That's not a normal thing, but it's a great honor to lead the race. I will do everything I can to keep the jersey.”

Hincapie remained 1-minute-40 ahead of his nearest challenger at the end of 133-mile race from Lebanon to Columbia. The race was won in a mass sprint by Brazilian cyclist Luciano Pagliarini of the Prodir-Saunier Duval. He finished just ahead of Stage 1 winner Ivan Dominguez of the Toyota-United cycling team.

Discovery Channel has to protect the yellow jersey for just two more days to claim the Tour of Missouri. Saturday is a 127-mile race from Jefferson City to St. Charles, and Sunday is a 74-mile circuit race around St. Louis.

The top 10 are:

1. George Hincapie (US), Discovery
2. William Frischkorn (US), Slipstream, 1:40 behind
3. David Canada (Spain), Prodir, 2:22
4. Dominique Rollin (Canada), KodakGallery, 2:23
