Tour de France runner-up Cadel Evans won the individual time trial at the 2007 Good Luck Beijing Road Cycling International Invitational on Sunday.
Michael Rogers, Evans' teammate from Australia, finished in second place and Alexandr Dyachenko of Kazakhstan finished third.
Cyclists raced on the same course that will be raced at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The 14.6-mile route on Sunday will be extended for next year's competition.
Fifty-one cyclists competed in the event.
The highest finisher among the Americans was Scott Nydam, who finished in 14th place, 3:33 behind Evans. US cyclist Jon Garcia finished in 20th place, and the other US entry, Andy Guptill, did not finish.
Scanning the list of competitors, Evans and Rogers appear to be the only real heavyweights in the bunch. It's an indication that Australia is serious about bringing home some medals from the 2008 Summer Olympics. Rogers was quoted at CyclingNews:
“Our main competitors weren't here, and I think we'll have quite a big mental advantage over them (next year),” explained Rogers. “It was a bit of an effort to come here but I'm really glad we made the time.”
During the rest of the year, Evans races for Predictor-Lotto and Rogers for T-Mobile. You'll remember Evans on the podium at the Tour, while Rogers crashed out after hitting a metal guardrail.
