Almost one year to the day before road cycling events start at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, the “Good Luck Beijing” 2007 International Road Cycling Invitational Race is running this weekend.
Officials says 18 teams comprising 122 racers will compete according to UCI competition rules. The event includes the men's road group and the men's road individual time trials with the competition quota as six and three for each team respectively.
Among countries sending teams are USA, Russia, Australia, Korea, Chinese Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei. Additionally, Luxembourg, with the smallest participation, sent only one racer and two officials.
The 107-mile road race follows the exact course as next year's bike race.
The racers will start from Yongdingmen and will pass by the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, Yonghegong Palace, Temple of Earth Park, the Beijing Olympic Tower and the Summer Palace and enter the suburban stage via Badaling Highway..
