Live streaming of 2007 Giro d'Italia

I see the website for the Versus cable network (formerly OLN) is providing live video and audio streaming of the 2007 Giro d'Italia this year in partnership with Cycling.tv. That's great news for anyone who wants to see live coverage of this three-week-long cycling classic.

Versus is offering the webcast for every stage of this year's Giro — May 12 – June 3 — except for the Sunday stages, which will be broadcast on cable TV as part of the Cyclysm Sunday programs.

This video streaming isn't free, however. Versus is charging $24.99 for the Giro, and throwing in Milan-San Remo highlights.

The cable network has previously offered video streaming of the Giro, but this marks the first time that commentary in English will be added to the webcast. Check the Versus-Cycling.TV Giro d'Italia website for more info.

Other choices

There are other options for tracking the Giro d'Italia this month.

CyclingNews and VeloNews both offer live “play-by-play” updates of the race action in text. It's very easy to catch the updates and scroll back for earlier action.

Also, Eurosport offers free audio reporting at it's website. Try this Giro audio link; if it doesn't work go to the Eurosport cycling page and look for a link to audio over on the right side below the video box.

Highlights

This year's Giro d'Italia opens May 12 with three stages on the island of Sardenia to honor the 200th birthday of Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi.

There are two individual time trials in 2007, four mountaintop finishes and eight mountain stages.

The race finishes June 3 in Milan.

The Giro d'Italia website features a large scale map and stage profiles; CyclingNews and VeloNews also reported good intros to the race.
