Tyler Hamilton, left, officially returns to pro cycling in the US next month as his Italy-based Tinkoff team is among the 15 that will compete in the week-long Tour de Georgia.

Discovery Channel's George Hincapie also is expected to have recovered from his broken wrist and be back in the saddle in time for the 667-mile Tour, scheduled for April 16-22.

The Tour de Georgia team list, as reported in the Rome (GA) Tribune, includes five ProTour teams (CSC, Discovery, Prodir-Saunier, QuickStep, and Predictor-Lotto), as well as four UCI Professional Continental teams and five UCI Continental (USA) teams.

As the Tour of Georgia enters its fifth year, many high profile cyclists are expected to compete. Discovery brings Tour of California winner Levi Leipheimer, former Brasstown Bald stage winner Tom Danielson and USA Cycling Pro Road Race Champion Hincapie; Team CSC has USA Cycling Pro Time Trial Champion Dave Zabriskie and Bobby Julich: and Predictor-Lotto will probably include former Tour de Georgia winner Chris Horner.

Update: March 24 — Bobby Julich's blog reports that he won't be racing at Tour de Georgia this year, as he stays in Europe for the Criterium International, Pay Basque, the Ardenne Classics, and the Tour of Romandie.

Hamilton returns to pro cycling after a two-year suspension for blood doping. The 36-year-old was banned for two years — until September 2006 — after tests taken during the 2004 Vuelta a Espana revealed “foreign blood” in his system, a charge he continues to vehemently deny.

Gaining prominence at a cyclist on Lance Armstrong's US Postal Service team, Hamilton went to Team CSC and later Phonak. He signed with the Tinkoff Credit Systems team in November.

The teams are:

Team CSC

Discovery Channel

Prodir-Saunier

QuickStep-Innergetic

Predictor-Lotto

Tinkoff Credit System

HealthNet/Maxxis

Team Slipstream

Navigators Insurance

Jittery Joe's

Priority Health/Bissell
