How many miles did you ride your bicycle in 2006?
Vote in the poll in the right column and see where you stack up against other Biking Bis readers.
Right off, I'm ashamed to admit that I barely skimmed 2,000 miles. Looking back over my monthly bike logs, I see notes for serious bike mechanical problems in February, the commitment of managing youth baseball in March through mid-June, and illness this fall.
They're all flabby excuses. There should have been more months like August, when I bicycled nearly 600 miles.
Basically, I let myself get too distracted by other things.
2007 will be better, I promise to myself. It has to be. I really don't get the uber-health benefits of cycling until I hit about 4,000 miles spread out over the year or about 76 miles/week. That's just my impression. Ken Kifer recommended a minimum of 45 minutes a day, six days a week; that's 58 miles @ 13 mph, and 68 @ 15 mph.
I will put bicycling right up there with other “must-do” tasks, like house and yard work, making kids' appointments, and writing this blog.
Adios!
