Are you wondering how you're going to be spend your vacation this summer? I've updated more listings for Across-State Bicycle Tours, which might give you some ideas.
These are fully supported, mostly week-long bike tours operated by nonprofit groups to show off the wonders of the various states. I have updates for LAGBRAU, GRABAAWR, SAGBRAW, BRAT, OBR, XOBA, among others. That means I've been working in reverse alpha order to update bike tours in Wisconsin, Washington, Utah, Tennessee, South Dakota, Oregon and Ohio.
For more updates, see Across state bicycle tours setting dates for 2007.
The Great Annual Bicycle Adventure Along the Wisconsin River, or just GRABAAWR for short, is a 490-mile ride from the Eagle River to the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi rivers. June 23-30, 2007.
As long as we're stumbling over acronyms, how about this year's SAGBRAW, or Schramm's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Wisconsin, running from July 29 – August 3. Details are pending forthe 340-mile bike ride.
RedSpoke is a 300-mile bicycle ride across Washington from Redmond to Spokane. Celebrating its 20th year, the bike tour takes cyclists over the Cascades, but takes advantage of prevailing tailwinds on the other side.
The Legacy Annual Great Bike Ride Across Utah (LAGBRAU) runs from September 16 – 22 in 2007. In addition, the organizers are planning for 3-day and 10-day options. While the week-long ride includes 3 national parks, 3 national monuments and 4 state parks, the 3- and 10-day options include either less or more, respectively.
BRAT is the Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee that starts in Nashville this year and throws in a visit to the Jack Daniels Distillery (samples anyone?). Dates — September 15 – 22, 2007.
It's the third year for the Argus Leader's Tour de Kota, which rides from Vermillion to Watertown with overnight stops in Parker, Dell Rapids, Madison and De Smet. No mileage yet posted for the June 10 – 15, 2007, bike ride, but last year's was 462 miles.
Dates are up for the two Oregon week-long bicycle rides.
OBR — the Oregon Bicycle Ride — dips into Northern California for about half of its week-long run this year, from Aug. 12 – 18, 2007. The bike loop begins and ends in Cave Junction, with overnight stops in Ashland, Yreka, Etna, Orleans, and Happy Camp. Lots of climbing over 369 posted miles, with options for more miles on a “rest day.”
Cycle Oregon is planning a 490-mile ride running from September 8 – 15, 2007. No details yet on the route.
I updated GOBA (Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure) earlier. Now we have the Across Ohio Bicycle Adventure (XOBA) that celebrates its 10th anniversary from July 21 – 28, 2007. No route is posted yet, although registration is open.
Lastly is TOSRV, the Tour of the Scioto River Valley. This isn't a week-long ride, but the two-day sagged bicycle tour draws some 3,000 cyclists for the ride from Columbus to Portsmouth and back on May 12 and 13, 2007.
