Greg LeMond's wild ride on a recumbent

This picture is too cool to pass up. It's Greg LeMond riding a recumbent at the Dam2Dam “Thumbs Up!” Bicycle Tour last month in Wenatchee, Washington.

The expression of his face makes him look like a little kid on a new bike.

LeMond was known as an innovator in cycling (remember what aero bars did for him in the 1989 Tour de France?), but he looked a little unfamiliar with the 'bent. Notice the helping hand?

A witness at 'bent Rider Forums said the three-time Tour de France winner had a little trouble the first time, but took off across the parking lot on the second go and didn't return for a while.

As it turns out, LeMond Fitness Inc. sells an indoor trainer that's set up like a recumbent; it's called the G-Force RT.

LeMond attended the bike ride for the Mike Utley Foundation back on Sept. 30. The foundation raises funds to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. It was founded by Utley, a Detroit Lions right guard who suffered a spinal cord injury in a game against the Rams in 1991.

LeMond rode the 50-mile route on the bike tour and signed autographs. There are more pictures here.
