TIME Sport International is issuing a recall for 18,000 bicycle pedals.
The ball-bearing cap can fail, causing the pedal to come off the crank and the cyclist to lose balance and fall. At least eight injuries have been reported, according to a US Consumer Product Safety Commission website.
The models are: Time RXS Titan Carbon, RXS Carbon, RXS and RXE Bicycle Pedals.
The pedals are described as black or gray, made of composite and mounted on either steel or titanium pedal axle. Not included in the recall — pedals that have a gold dot on teh underside of the pedal body just inside the bearing cap mounting.
The pedals were sold through online and mail order retailers, as well as bike stores, between October 2004 to August 2006 for $75 to $300.
Consumers should stop using the pedals immediately and contact TIME to find out how to get the pedals inspected. Call (800) 240-8051 or check the TIME website.
