“I'm glad we didn't have to make that choice. Church is very important to us. We felt in our hearts he was going to win. He is not one to take second place.”

Floyd Landis' mother, Arlene, speaking after she and husband Paul chose to go to church rather than watch their son win the Tour de France on live TV. About the time Landis became the third American to win the Tour de France, his parents were riding their bicycles home from church.

Landis grew up in Farmersville, Pennsylvania, in a strict Mennonite family. In spite of some early conflicts surrounding his choice of profession, his family and the community have rallied around him. Neighbors have decorated the family's home with green and yellow balloons and posted signs such as “Floyd's the Man” and “To God be the Glory.”
