Heinz Stucke gets his ride back; he can continue bike tour

World cyclist Heinz Stucke is back in the saddle again after his bicycle was stolen earlier in the week. An unidentified person found his stolen bicycle in a park in Portsmouth, England, and notified police.

The 66-year-old German has been travelling around the world since 1962 — 44 years. The only thing more amazing than that feat is that he's done it all on the same bicycle.

That black bike, painted with the names of the “amazing” places he's been and adorned with a map of the world hanging from the cross bar, was taken while Stucke camped out after arriving in Portsmouth en route to Greenland. His plea for the bike's safe return was carried across England.

After it was found in a nearby park, Stucke told the BBC that this wasn't the first time it had been stolen.

“I really expected it to be found. The bike is not a flashy one; it's not an expensive one.” If anything, he expected the Brooks saddle to perhaps be missing.

The bike, fortified for the rigors of around-the-world pedaling, weighs more than 50 pounds. In addition, Stucke carries more than 80 pounds of gear. More about Stucke and his travels is available on the Bike China Adventure website.
