Test your bicycling mettle on Brasstown Bald Buster

Win at Brasstown Bald, and you have a better than even chance of winning the Tour de Georgia. Just ask Tom Danielson, the Discovery cycling team rider who won the mountain stage and took home the title last year.

Pro cyclists will toil up Brasstown Bald, left, on Saturday this year. For us mere mortals, several North Georgia groups sponsor the annual Brasstown Bald Buster Century featuring 12,000 feet of elevation gain over 100 miles. The ride starts early on May 6 in Helen, Georgia.

The 100-mile ride is limited to the first 300 riders who register before May 1; there's no limit to a shorter 80-mile option.

Cyclists who want to take a shorter option (80 miles and 6,000 feet of elevation gain) can bail out of the climb at Hogpen gap and return to the town of Helen, Georgia. There is no limit to riders on the shorter route.

A “southern-style” dinner awaits all the finishers in Helen.

As the flyer says, if the 15% grade of Hogpen does not get you, the last three miles and 20% grade on Brasstown Bald will.

See the Brasstown Bald website to register.

Another TdG public ride

Recreational cyclists can also ride the final 25 miles of the Tour de Georgia route into Alpharetta on Sunday. The event is a fund-raiser for the BriarRose Grand Peloton, raising money for the Georgia Cancer Coalition.

  2. First of all, I want to point out that dieting and exercises are best methods for fat loss.
Obesity is a health hazard, but there are ways to work with it, without compromising your health
further. But let me explain the whole concept of
    this diet program.
