It seems that rail-trails are among the best places to enjoy the fall color from a bicycle.
With mostly evergreens blanketing the Cascade foothills, sometimes a single tree provides a splash of color. Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail (formerly John Wayne Pioneer Trail)
Maybe it’s because so many are bordered by trees. Even in suburban areas, the trails are often buffered by trees that have sprouted up along the old railroad rights of way.

Or maybe it’s because there’s no threat for traffic. A bicycle rider can look around and enjoy the scenery without having to worry about staying on the safe side of the white fog line painted at the side of the road.
