Break-up or hitch-up for Lance and Sheryl?

(Updates: Bicycle quotes: What others say about Armstrong-Crow split, Feb. 6, 2006;
It's official: Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow split up, Feb. 3, 2006; and Lance Armstrong movie director has a full plate, Jan. 26, 2006)

Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow are definitely splitsville. I've got it on good authority from Madame Rosa, the pet psychic, who was trying to contact our dead cat.

Instead of contacting Manny, however, she learned that Sheryl was secretly dating — you guessed it — Elvis. Lance found out, and now he's pulled out of the race.

I really thought all this Lance celebrity stuff would die down after he retired from professional cycling last summer. Was I ever wrong. It's only gotten worse. I suppose that's because there's no actual Armstrong cycling news to distract us from the gossipy stuff.

The gossip columns actually are reporting (and that's using the word loosely) that the celebrity couple are either split up or secretly married, Armstrong has sent an e-mail to his hometown newspaper, the Austin American-Statesman, which says: “No truth to it at all. Sorry to ruin the story.”

>Celebrity writer Ted Casablanca at E-online wrote a couple of days ago that, as he had predicted, Armstrong and Crow split up right before Christmas. Something called the Daily Blabber at iVillage then reports the rumors must be true, because the columnist was told she couldn't ask Crow about Armstrong during an upcoming interview.

While Armstrong is denying the breakup rumors, Crow was denying speculation (see New York Daily News) that she and Armstrong actually got married two years ago in Portland and that she's visiting fertility clinics.

The two are still planning to get married in the spring; Crow has asked Ralph Lauren to design special gowns for the Sheryl-Lance wedding.
