Lance at Rose Bowl… “hook 'em horns!”

San Jose Mercury News reporter Tim Kawakami reports in his sports blog that he cut in front of a “skinny, bony, scrawny, skinny, almost ethereal blond guy” to get his media credentials at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday.

The guy was Lance Armstrong, who got into the Rose Bowl on a media pass to watch his hometown University of Texas Longhorns.

An AP reporter also caught sight of Armstrong, who was wearing dark, wrap-around aviator sunglasses and a black leather jacket over a Texas T-shirt.

When asked about his current plans, Armstrong said, between sips of suds, “Just trying to stay retired, dude.”

Armstrong got to see quite a football game, with Longhorns' quarterback Vince Young charging into the end zone for the winning touchdown with seconds left on the clock.

That's like Armstrong winning the Tour de France by beating Jan Ullrich in a spring finish on the Champs Elysees in Paris. Most of Armstrong's seven Tour de France wins, however, were decided in the equivalent of the middle of the third quarter.
