The old Meadowbrook Bridge on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail will be closed later this month to allow work crews to replace some rotten portions.
A flight of steps leads from Reinig Road to the trail across the Meadowbrook Bridge
You probably know the Meadowbrook bridge. It’s the old railroad trestle over the Snoqualmie River that marks one end of a trail detour and requires users to climb a flight of steps to get to the trail from the road below.
Of course these steps weren’t here when the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad ran through here. There’s a couple of miles of missing trail on the old railroad right-of-way between Reinig Road and Tokul Road, and cyclists are directed along Mill Pond Road to this location.
Detour
There’s a better way through this detour, however. Heading east, follow the Snoqualmie Valley Trail signs down Tokul Road to Mill Pond Road.
Then, instead of turning left to follow the signs to the Meadowbrook Bridge, turn right and cross the single-lane road bridge (watch for the traffic signal) over the Snoqualmie River on Meadowbrook Lane. Turn left onto SE Park Street after crossing the bridge, and follow this as it passes Centennial Fields Park and becomes Meadowbrook North Bend Road.
About 0.7 mile after turning onto Park, turn left into the Mount Si Golf Course parking lot. You’ll find the Snoqualmie Valley Trail crossing the parking lot. Turn right to head toward Rattlesnake Lake.
I’d recommend this route if the bridge is open or closed. I find it too much of a hassle to climb those steps with my bike, especially if I’m loaded down for a tour out the John Wayne Pioneer Trail.
