Bicycle helmet importer Louis Garneau is recalling 1,180 aerodynamic styled bicycle helmets because they don’t protect the user in cold temperatures.
Users are urged to stop using the helmets immediately and return them to Garneau USA for a refund or replacement.
The recall is for Louis Garneau P-09 aerodynamic bicycle helmets with model number 1405362. The helmets came in three designs — black with red and white, white with blue and gray, and white with silver and white. They have a manufacture date of “Jan. 2014” marked inside the helmet. [Helmets with the April 2014 production date are not included in the recall.]
Garneau officials say that even though the helmet passed the industry standard CPSC standards, the company discovered that the helmet cover made of polycarbonate micro-shell failed the manufacturer’s cold-conditions head-impact tests. Although no injuries have been reported by helmet users, Garneau took the precaution of launching the recall.
