You're not a bike racer. Is there another way to get in on the action at next February's Amgen Tour of California?
The Tour's website lists the need for dozens of volunteers during the bike race from Feb. 19 – 26.
Ten cities are involved in the bike race, and the route covers about 700 miles of roadway from San Francisco to the Los Angeles area. Volunteers are needed in all the cities and along the route. The bonus for your do-gooder activity: you get a T-shirt and get a chance to meet world-class cyclists.
Among the volunteer positions that Tour of California organizers need to fill:
Course marshals — keep the route clear of cars and pedestrians, answer questions;
Hospitality — set up and tear down exposition areas in each town;
Start cities — hand out food and beverages to course officials, team members, police; or decorate hospitality tent and meet and greet dignitaries;
Finish cities — handle check-in at hospitality tents, decorate and meet and greet.
In addition, the Tour is seeking volunteers to help with media and communications, escorting cyclists to and from medical tent for testing, security and access control at various venues, coordination of health and wellness expos, and volunteer check-in.
To volunteer, go to the website and see what's needed in your city. Leave them your name and email address.
