The Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team announced its new team lineup for 2006 on Wednesday.
Lance Armstrong obviously is not among the cyclists, but George Hincapie (right), Tom Danielson, Viatcheslav Ekimov, Yaroslav Popovych, Paolo Salvodelli, and others from 16 countries round out the 27-man roster.
Dan Osipow reports for The Paceline (free registration) that team manager Johan Bruyneel plans to set some new objectives for the bicycle team that has previously been focused mainly on Armstrong's Tour de France visions. He also expects to contend in the Tour as well.
The team scored 21 victories in the 2005 season, Bruyneel points out, and Armstrong had just two of them — the overall Tour win and a Tour stage. Hincapie won the most difficult Tour stage, and Salvodelli won a Tour stage and the overall Giro d'Italia.
With Armstrong gone, who's the new team leader? For the Tour de France, Bruyneel points to Hincapie, Popovych, and Jose Azevedo as contenders. Time will tell.
