If you’re like me, you can’t believe that it’s already time for the Seattle Bike Expo to roll around.
The big event sponsored by the local Cascade Bicycle Club is returning to the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
What I like about this show is that it offers something for every type of bicyclist. Speedy triathletes to pokey recreational cyclists to urban commuters to dirt lovers will all find something of interest among the 250 vendor booths and hours of presentations.
While all the big manufacturers are represented, so are many hand built bike and gear makers from the Pacific Northwest. There’s also a strong showing from all the local clubs and tour companies that are offering rides in the upcoming year.
Among the bicycling luminaries to attend and make presentations this year are local Olympians Jennie Reed, Megan Fisher and Jill Kintner. Ryan Leech returns to display mountain biking skills. Writers Willie Weir of Seattle, Ellee Thalheimer of Portland, and Mark Johnson of VeloNews will be on hand, as will grandmother Cindi Rauch, who recently completed 50 centuries in 50 days in all 50 states (amazing!).
The event is $10 per day (members get a discount) or $12 for a weekend pass. Cash only at the door (no credit cards), although an ATM will be available.
Parking is $5 for cars, so it’s better to ride your bike via the Elliott Bay Trail and leave it in the bike corral for a small donation.
