2 bicycle recalls: Wilier Triestina and Norco

Faulty steering tubes on Wilier Triestina Izoard XP bikes and frames on Norco Havoc bikes are the subject of Consumer Product Safety Commission recalls announced today. Owners should stop using the bikes immediately.

Wilier Izoard XP

Wilier Triestina USA recalled about 200 Izoard XP road bikes because the bike’s steering tube with carbon/alloy forks can break. The Atlanta-based importer launched the recall even though no incidents or injuries have been reported.

The faulty steering tubes are on bikes with serial numbers between LH0001 and LH4000. The serial number is located on the steerer tube about 6 inches from the crown. Bicycles purchased before January 2012 are not included in the recall.

The bikes, made in China, were sold nationwide from January through October 2012 for about $2,600.

2011 Norco Havoc

Reports of three cracked frames have prompted BC-based Norco Bicycles to recall about 90 2011 Havoc bicycles. No injuries were reported.

The frame can break where the down tube meets the top tube. The bikes were sold at Norco dealers from November 2010 to September 2011 for about $600. They were made in China and include both 24-inch and 26-inch bikes.

The 24-inch bicycles are semi-matte grey, while the 26-inchers are in semi-matte red. The frames included in the recall have serial numbers (found beneath the bottom bracket) that begin with K10DQ, K10FQ, K10IQ, K10KQ, P10K, P10F or P11B.
