This might be old news to some, but local pro cyclist and bike shop owner Tom Peterson is switching teams for the 2013-2014 seasons.

Peterson, 25, who grew up in North Bend and owns Peterson Bicycle in Renton, is saying good-bye to Garmin-Sharp at the end of the season for a two-year contract with Dutch Team Argos-Shimano.
Peterson is currently racing at the Vuelta a Espana, the last of the year’s Grand Tours. He’s one of only four Americans in the race this year.
The team he’ll be riding for next year has won four stages so far, thanks to the efforts of German sprinter John Degenkolb.
There hasn’t been any news that the other Washington native on Garmin-Sharp, Tyler Farrar of Wenatchee, is doing anything but staying put with Garmin next year.
Peterson has quite a few laurels in his career, including a Stage 2 victory at the Amgen Tour of California in 2009. He also was Junior US National Road Race champion in 2004 and won the best young rider competition at the Tour of California in 2006. Other accomplishments are listed at his Garmin-Sharp bio page.
The announcement was made in the weekly newsletter sent out by his shop, Peterson Bicycle. The bike store is located in the retail space behind the Denny’s at the NE 44th Street exit of Interstate 405. If you take the Lake Washington bike route through Renton, then you’ve probably seen the signs for it.
I doubt if the team change will mean any changes at the shop, except perhaps some Argos-Shimano team jerseys may start showing up in the inventory soon.
